Alpha Pi Chapter planned an innovative project to raise money for a midwife of color that they sponsored. This midwife, Deondra, needed assistance paying for her board exams. She is a single mother from Texas who has had financial difficulties due to contracting COVID and being hospitalized. She supports 3 children and has a goal of opening a Black-owned birth center in Texas. There are less than 20 Black-owned birth centers in the United States. The chapter created a march madness tournament and sold brackets for $3 for one bracket or $20 for 3 brackets and a t-shirt. They received 140 participants and raised over $600 for Deondra.
