Service is the common thread that motivates and deeply inspires all Omega Phi Alpha members. So it is important we share the amazing project our members complete each year. Here are some outstanding projects so far this year.

Alpha Chapter – Bowling Green State University

In August, Alpha Chapter helped with Freshman Move-In for their University Community project and cleaned their chapter house for their Members of the Sorority project.

Personally if there is a move-in project on campus I would always choose to do it again and again and again. Freshmen usually have a lot of stuff and when we move them in they are so appreciative. I’ve had so many hugs from freshmen and their parents for helping them move in because they cannot move everything themselves. I even had somebody try to tip me, because of how good of a service we did. I just think this project is a really good way to put people in a good mood for the upcoming year.

Alpha Pi Chapter – West Virginia University

In September, Alpha Pi chapter completed two projects. They worked hard handing out free water for students for their University Community project and handing out positive notes around midterms for their Permanent Project. Here’s what members Emily Herron and Kayla Wagner had to say about their projects.

I think doing the permanent project the week of midterms happened at a perfect time to uplift students who may not be doing so well this week. Everyone’s mental health matters and we hope by offering encouraging notes and the option to write one to someone else we can make a rough week better!

The Free Water Stand was a really fun and rewarding project for our sisters! There were so many students who were happy to see that our sisters were handing out free water & Gatorade in the midst of the heat! Sometimes it’s the small things that can make a bad day better, and students left the Free Water Stand with a smile!

Alpha Kappa Chapter – University of Kansas

In October, Alpha Kappa Chapter completed multiple projects! They have been working hard with making dog toys during recruitment, registering KU students to vote, and putting together a stress relief workshop to benefit their members. Check out the pictures below and what Avery Copeland and Lauren Riedstra have to say about the projects!

During recruitment, we had a dog toy-making event! Our active members all brought old t-shirts that we used to cut and braid together to make dog toys. This event was so fun and a great way to show our potential new members what a service project may look like. The project went so well, and we ended up with 75 dog toys!

For National Voter Registration Day, we wanted to host a voter registration drive to give KU students the opportunity to use their voices and register to vote! We tabled in our student union for three days promoting resources students could use to check their voter registration status!

As midterms approached, we wanted to put on a project to help relieve the stress of our siblings. To do this, we put on a stress relief workshop where we talked about the importance of self-care and how our siblings can take care of themselves. We had fun activities set up for members with the goal that it would help them feel calm if they had any stress! We made slime, painted nails, and had snacks and face masks!

Alpha Rho Chapter – Virginia Tech

Here are some of the awesome service projects Alpha Rho completed in October.

Alpha Rho Active Audrey Rowe ran for the homecoming court this year. The chapter supported her with setting up, boothing, and attending the parade. Additionally, they made hundreds of friendship bracelets that were handed out all over Virginia Tech’s campus to remind the students that we are a community. Audreys platform was titled “Advocating for Alliance with Audrey”.

“Audrey’s platform aims to bring awareness to gender-based violence and survivorship. Audrey chose this platform because she wants to foster a welcoming and safe community for all Hokies because this is home. She wants to represent Virginia Tech by being on Homecoming Court because it is another way for her to embody the school’s motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve). Service is one of the core values that she has been able to embody at Virginia Tech through her membership in Omega Phi Alpha, a national service sorority. Her previous experience as an orientation leader for Virginia Tech taught her all of the reasons why she is proud to be a Hokie and why she is proud to represent Virginia Tech.”

Alpha Rho also raised money for Walk to End Alzheimer’s and members attended the main awareness event. Many of the chapter’s members have known someone with or lost someone to Alzheimer’s, so participating in this event was very special.

The chapter also participated in a Trunk or Treat event on Virginia Tech’s campus. Adults and childrens drove through and visited their decorated booth as members distributed candy. Members enjoyed dressing up for Halloween and interacting with the New River Valley community.
