The Greater Nashville Area Alumnae Chapter (Omega Delta) kicked off the school year by volunteering with the PENCIL Foundation of Metro Nashville. The PENCIL Foundation is a non-profit organization supported by various companies and the Metro Nashville school system to get the community more involved in local schools. The LP PENCIL Box is a “store” where businesses, organizations and companies can donate new or gently used items that may be needed in classrooms, and all of these items are provided to Metro Nashville teachers at no cost. Several GNAAC members volunteered for three Saturdays this fall at the LP PENCIL Box store, helping to restock the shelves, inventory new donations, check-in teachers, and bag items. It was a great way to meet the wonderful teachers that are helping educate the next generation and get our name out in the local community.
The project was easy for alumnae of all ages and skill levels to participate in, and it was one of the most fun projects that this OPA alumna has ever been a part of. The PENCIL Box is currently establishing dates for the spring, and many GNAAC members hope to volunteer during Saturday hours once again.
