Mark your calendars! We are excited to announce that our first sorority wide service project of the year will kick off on September 15, 2021 and run until February 28, 2022.
The project is Pop Tabs for Ronald McDonald House Charities and all members (active and alumni) can participate by collecting pop tabs. Pop tabs by themselves might not mean much, but when collected they add up to a valuable donation to the Ronald McDonald House. Aluminum pop tabs from any container (soda can, seltzer can, soup can, pet food, etc.) get weighed at a local recycler and turned into cash which helps provide for local families.
How to Participate
Actives
All active chapters may participate in this project as both a community-at-large and members of the sorority project for their chapter, and can collect the pop tabs for their local chapter of Ronald McDonald House Charities. Details about tracking service hours have been provided to each Chapter Service Director. Please reach out to chapterservice@omegaphialpha.org with any questions.
Alumni
We’ve been listening to alumni feedback that you’d like to participate in service and be involved with your home chapters. This is your opportunity to do both at the same time! Alumni can collect pop tabs on behalf of their home chapter or participate with the national virtual alumni chapter. If an alum chooses to participate with their chapter, the chapter will make arrangements to receive the pop tabs by mail, drop off days/times, or local pickup.
All members can sign up to participate on OPAportal by viewing the national calendar and selecting the service project at the chapter of their choice. Chapters will also reach out to alumni members or alumni can email their chapter to indicate participation.
We are looking forward to measuring the impact we will make for Ronald McDonald House Charities! Our Chapter Service Program Coordinator, Kristen Brightwell, and Alumni Engagement Coordinator, Julia Bosco have some fun activities planned for participation in this project, so stay tuned for more information throughout the project dates!

Q: How will chapters assign service hours?
A: Hours for this project will fall under one of two categories: Members of the Sorority or Community at Large. Chapters can review this document for more details.
Q: How do I sign up to participate with my chapter?
A: Log into OPAportal and click your chapter name. Once logged in, click events and view upcoming events. You will see an event calendar with all chapter events including service projects. The event will be on the calendar as Pop Tab Project with a start date of September 15th and end date of February 28. Click the event and sign up to participate.
Q: What if my chapter is defunct but I still want to participate?
A: You can choose another active chapter to participate with or participate with the national virtual alumni event.
Q: I am an alum and want to join the national virtual alum event. How do I do that?
A: The event has been added to the national calendar on OPAportal and any member can sign up to participate. Follow the steps below.
- Log into OPAportal.org
- Click events and view national calendar
- Once in the national calendar, click the event “Pop Tabs for Ronald McDonald House Charities (Virtual Alumni Group) and sign up.
