On Feb. 26, the sisters of the Nu Chapter participated in Habitat for Humanity in downtown Atlanta. The day was filled with paint wars, local celebrities and tons of fun. Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit international organization that builds homes for those in need. Its main focus is to “eliminate poverty, housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.” Habitat for Humanity has built more than 175,000 homes since its founding in 1976.
8 a.m. We divided into groups and set out to conquer the tasks at hand: put up siding, caulk and paint the interior and exterior of the home, install cabinets, lay down linoleum and build a deck. The home was caulked and almost completely covered in its first coat of exterior paint by lunch. Sisters Anne Wilhoite and Colleen Sherwin installed a full set of kitchen cabinets.
By the end of the day, our group finished siding on the home, installed a full set of kitchen cabinets, laid linoleum in the kitchen and dining room, built a handicapped-accessible deck, and completed two coats of paint on the exterior of the home.
We were able to meet the family for which the home was being built. The homes we worked on were sponsored by Clark Howard’s 20th Annual Celebration Build. Nu Chapter sisters were able to meet Howard, a nationally syndicated talk show host known as “America’s Consumer Champion”. A big thanks goes out to all of the sisters of Nu Chapter.
