The Omega Phi Alpha Foundation Board of Directors (FBOD) eagerly attended and represented our community at Omega Phi Alpha National Service Sorority’s National Convention in Greenville, South Carolina. We organized and sponsored several events, including the Foundation ALUMNI Dinner and Reception, a raffle, the Know Your V-A-R Workshop, and the Alumni Suite.
Foundation ALUMNI Dinner and Reception
At the reception and dinner for alumni, we raised over $1,500, thanks to a challenge from First Sorority National President Sue Hess and the Goodburn family. Alumni had the chance to meet new members, reconnect with familiar faces, and take photos with a stunning “Bee” balloon arch before enjoying a delicious buffet.
“I enjoyed the Foundation ALUMNI Dinner and Reception as I was able to really connect with my fellow OPhiA alumni, some I really only see few and far between, such as at OPhiA Convention. I also got to understand what the OPhiA Foundation does for the sorority and what its impact has been in only a few short years since it was established.”

“I learned about unique giving or fundraising options like hosting a percentage night at a restaurant or naming the Foundation as a beneficiary on your will, trust, or as a payable on death/transfer on death on an account like an IRA, 401(k), or brokerage account.”
Additional Fundraising Efforts
Additionally, we hosted a raffle at the National Convention featuring bee items from anonymous donors and gifts from the Goodburn Family, Sue Fehlner Hess, and the Omega Phi Alpha Sorority Board. Sisters enjoyed previewing raffle items via QR code and placing tickets in boxes for their desired prizes. The excitement of winning numbers called during Convention breaks thrilled everyone who participated!
We also created specialty Pura Vida bracelets for convention-goers, featuring light blue, dark blue, and yellow strands. Both actives and alumni loved the themed bracelets. Kendra Scott provided a vendor display, with a percentage of sales donated to the Omega Phi Alpha Foundation.
Know Your V-A-R Certification Training
Convention attendees engaged in the “Know Your V-A-R Certification Training” sponsored by the Foundation. Alex Cory from Active Minds led the workshop, teaching members how to address everyday mental health challenges. Participants also shared their struggles and experiences, strengthening our bonds.
Each participant received a V-A-R Certificate at the end of the workshop.
“The Know Your V-A-R mental health training allowed for a space of understanding and empathy amongst our sisterhood and gave me the confidence and resources to help others who may be struggling. I left the Convention feeling inspired and this training played a big part in that.”
Alumni Suite and $3,000 Fundraising Success at the National Convention
The FBOD also hosted the Alumni Suite each day, providing snacks and beverages, including continental breakfast items and juices. The suite featured several arrangements of champagne roses with blue delphinium and eucalyptus, adding a lovely fragrance.
Working as a team, the FBOD represented the Foundation with professionalism and sisterhood. We achieved our goal of raising $3,000 thanks to the support from our sisters, members, donors, and everyone who contributed time, talent, and resources.
We look forward to participating in the National Convention in 2026!
