At the end of each spring semester, the Omega Phi Alpha Foundation awards scholarships to actives and alumni who are pursuing higher education degrees.

And this year, the Foundation has awarded four $500 scholarships to the following members to help them further their education.

This fall, she will continue her academic journey at Rutgers University where she will be pursuing a master’s degree in Education. Reflecting on her role as mental health coordinator, Julia shares how her leadership experience has impacted her life as a member. “What I’m most proud of has been partnering with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to bring a campus walk to Rutgers,” says Julia. “I knew I wanted to host an event in memory of Hillary Herskowitz, a Rutgers alum and OPhiA sister we lost to suicide last year. My leadership position has enabled me to create a legacy within our chapter that will continue to prioritize mental health, making sure we do all that we can to support our sisters.”

Wendy Michelle Rangel

About the Pamela McCullough McEwen Scholarship Award

In 2019, the national convention delegation and the trustees renamed the award the Pamela McCullough McEwen Scholarship Award. Pamela gave Omega Phi Alpha more than two decades of her time, talent and expertise at the national level, most of them as vice president of finance or national treasurer.

“The Foundation was a vision of our sister, Pamela McCullough McEwen,” says Susie Larson (Mu). “She wanted to create a culture of giving that would further the mission of Omega Phi Alpha. She worked tirelessly to obtain the 501(c)(3) status. Her vision continues to grow with each donation received.”
