2023-2024 Awards
Awards season is upon us and it is always extra special when it is a convention year! As your year wraps up, reflect on the great strides made. Make sure to fill out awards for your chapter and amazing members. The Area of Service award applications will be open for our core four areas of service:
Anyone (active and alumni) can submit chapter service projects from Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 for these awards. The Chapter Health Team and National Service Team will also nominate chapters for these awards based on quality of project and the number of hours completed. The winners of these awards will be selected by a committee.
Also, any member (active or alumni) can nominate someone for the following awards:
Omega Phi Alpha presents many awards each year to individual members and chapters.
These awards and recognitions include service awards for both individual and chapter achievement, leadership development awards, special alumni honorary awards such as the Ann DeMatteo Alumni Service Award, and the sorority’s highest award, the Susan Terzian Award.

Susan Terzian Award
The Susan Terzian Award is named after Omega Phi Alpha’s second national president and former Beta Chapter President.
In November 1968, while serving as national president, Susan passed away from injuries she sustained in an automobile accident while returning home from a service project.
The Susan Terzian Award recognizes a member, group or chapter that displays boundless dedication to service or a remarkable achievement. Omega Phi Alpha only grants this award when an achievement is considered to be truly extraordinary.

Nominate a member for the Susan Terzian Award
Any active or alumni member can nominate someone for the award to be considered and voted by the national executive board. Unanimous approval of the Board of Directors is required to present this award.
Ann DeMatteo Alumni Service Award
The Ann DeMatteo Alumni Service Award is named after former national president and longtime board member Ann DeMatteo (Beta).
Ann created the Alumni Society Induction ceremony and was known to promote and perform OPhiA’s songs and rituals. The award is given each year to one or more deserving alumni based on community service performed on behalf of Omega Phi Alpha.
