Plan to bring comfortable, casual clothes to wear during the evening events and for activities outside the hotel. Pack activewear for the hotel fitness center or to go out for a run. Don’t forget to bring a swimsuit for the indoor pool!
During the business meetings and formal group meals, sisters are required to wear business casual outfits beginning Thursday morning. While business suits are not necessary, feel free to show off the professional outfits you would normally wear to a work meeting environment. Flats, low heels, or wedge shoes offer the best comfort. Please avoid miniskirts, jeans, or shoulder- or midriff-baring tops. While it will be very hot outside, the meeting rooms are often chilly, so please bring a sweater.
The convention begins on Thursday morning with Primers for First Timers for the convention newbies and a reunion for those who have previously attended. A breakfast buffet is served.
On Friday morning, it’s time to proudly wear OPA swag at your choice of four different service projects. The projects at ForKids and the Norfolk Botanical Gardens will be held outside and offsite. Two additional projects will be held at the convention hotel. Choose from finding lost sisters using an online national database with your cell phone, or making toiletry kits for the Ronald McDonald House. For outside, dress to stay cool! Please wear comfortable, casual clothing but no short-shorts, thin-strapped tanks, exposed bra straps, flip-flops, or see-through leggings.
After the service projects and lunch, attendees can wear nice jeans, khakis, capris, and OPA shirts to the rest of Friday’s events.
On Friday evening, travel by bus to Virginia Beach! Sisters can dip their feet in the sand, walk along the boardwalk, shop, grab dinner, and explore the area.
Attendees should again wear business casual outfits (see Thursday) on Saturday until after the alumnae society induction ceremony. Alumnae who are being inducted are welcome to dress even nicer, if they prefer. And be prepared to take advantage of individual professional headshots taken by the convention photographer (optional).
The Saturday evening service banquet is time to wear your fanciest outfits. Feel free to glam up in full- or cocktail-length dresses, pantsuits, or just nice tops and slacks, especially if comfort is a priority (see photos below).
The Sunday brunch is the last official event of Convention 2019. We recommend nicer “Sunday” casual clothes for this event. Since most sisters will be traveling right after the brunch, wear separates to quickly change part of your outfit into something more comfortable before heading home.
