The Omega Phi Alpha Scholarship Trust was established to acknowledge those sisters who demonstrated a high degree of dedication to OPA with some financial assistance toward their educational goals. Any lifetime member enrolled in good standing is eligible to apply. Scholarships are awarded based on the applicant’s OPA experience and responses to questions concerning the cardinal principles.
Each year the trustees determine the number and amount of the scholarships that can be awarded, based on the money that has been generated by the funds held by the trust. The number and the amount of scholarships is limited to the interest earnings—none of the money donated can be spent. We would love to see the trust grow, so that more (and/or larger) scholarships could be awarded each year.
In 2019, the convention delegation and the trustees renamed the award the Pamela McCullough McEwen Scholarship Award. Pamela gave the sorority more than two decades of national OPA experience, most of them as vice president of finance or national treasurer. She passed away in 2017, a few months after she celebrated OPA’s 50th anniversary. Read more about Pamela.
