What’s all this commotion about Convention 2019?

From July 10 to 14, actives and alumnae from all over the U.S. will gather in Norfolk, Virginia, for Omega Phi Alpha’s National Convention 2019.

The convention team is busy planning an event chock full of opportunities for you to bond and network with other sisters while enjoying all that Norfolk has to offer. Registration is open now!

Who will be there?

Any lifetime member in good standing is eligible and encouraged to attend. That includes new members, actives, alumnae, and even anyone on a leave of absence. Each active collegiate chapter is required to send two delegates to represent their chapter. Other attendees include the national executive board as well as alumnae voting delegates, who are chosen through a selection process. But you don’t have to be a delegate to take part in Convention 2019. Nonvoting attendees can choose from an assortment of fun activities or caucus with their active or alumnae delegates during business meetings.

Why should I attend Convention 2019?

This is the one event where all lifetime members can come together to celebrate the three cardinal principles of friendship, leadership, and service. Delegates get to voice their opinions on sorority business, participate in national elections, and attend an alumnae society induction. Plus, it’s inspiring to engage with sisters from all over the country!

What types of activities are planned?

Tentative activities include a service project to benefit a local group/organization, game night, an evening enjoying the beautiful shoreline of Virginia Beach, and much more.

What’s the cost to attend? 

The registration fees are $115 for each active, $130 for each alumna, and $100 for weekend-only attendance. This fee includes breakfast on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning, the Saturday evening service banquet, plus a notebook, T-shirt, and other materials.

Costs not covered with the registration fee include meals other than those mentioned above, and travel costs such as airfare, parking, and hotel accommodations.

If a chapter needs help with fundraising or budgeting to attend the convention, contact your CSC. Each chapter will receive a travel credit of $200 for each of their two voting delegates to offset their travel expenses. Those selected as alumnae voting delegates will receive a travel credit of $100 each to offset their travel expenses. Both active and alumnae voting delegates must attend a minimum of 75 percent of required convention activities.

Where is the convention being held?

Convention 2019 will be at the Hilton Norfolk The Main in Norfolk, Virginia. We have secured a block of rooms at the hotel for overnight accommodations. The nightly group rate is $44 per person (quad occupancy); $58 (triple); $88 (double), and $175 (single), inclusive of state and sales tax. You can request your room during the registration process.

What should I bring?

You should choose clothes fitting the wardrobe guide that will be available on the registration site. Also bring your favorite OPA gear, a copy of your chapter’s current constitution, plus a positive outlook, and an open mind!

Can I bring a guest?

Guests are welcome during meal periods, activities, and banquet (based upon availability) and could be subject to additional fees for registration and attendance. Guests are not permitted to attend business sessions.
