Alumnae Program

GENERAL ALUMNAE PROGRAM AND STRUCTURE

The alumnae program of Omega Phi Alpha functions throughout every level of the organization.  At the local level alumnae support and provide assistance to active collegiate chapters via Chapter Alumnae Liaisons (CAL).  The alumnae program also provides activities and sisterhood through alumnae chapters.  At the district level, alumnae serve in positions called Directors of Alumnae Activity (DAA), and at the national level, many alumnae serve in positions on the Alumnae Board of Directors (ABoD).

Officers

Chapter Alumnae Liaison (CAL) – active sisters elected or appointed to serve as the local officer to handle alum affairs for the chapter. They are the point of contact for the DAA and national. .

Director of Alumnae Activities* (DAA) – alums appointed by the VP Alumnae Relations (VPA), with input from the active chapters in the district, to coordinate activity in a district or portion of a district.  They serve as the liaison between the local level and national.

Alumnae Secretary* – alum appointed by the VPA to handle the administrative function and correspondence for the ABoD

Alumnae Web Director* - alum appointed by the VPA to handle the alum sections of the sorority website and all alum yahoo groups and other electronic methods of communication (other than formal publications).

Alumnae Publications Director* - alum appointed by the VPA to handle the alum newsletter, the annual calendar project and all formal alum publications.

Young Alumnae Leader* – alum appointed by the VPA to coordinate the activity associated with the alum group of recent graduates: exit packet delivery, ensuring updates to the database, providing information for continued OPA involvement, etc.

Golden Ophias Leadership Director* – alum appointed by the VPA to coordinate the activity associated with the alum group of more mature alums: society induction, alum pins, ensuring updates to the database, providing information for continued OPA involvement, etc.

Chapter Alumnae Liaisons Director*  - alum appointed by the VPA to coordinate the activities of the CALs from each active chapter, facilitating the appointment of the position at the chapter level and serving as the main point of contact for the CAL at the national level when assistance is needed.

VP Alumnae Relations* – alum elected by the delegates at convention, she is a member of OPA’s national executive board. The VPA is responsible for coordinating the alumnae program.

Districts

In order to provide leadership training for active chapter members and to encourage participation of alumnae, the territorial US is divided into districts (see DAA Duties for procedures on conducting district events).

Voting Representation:

  • Each district is represented by one alumnae voting delegate at convention
  • In addition to the voting delegates assigned specifically to each district, two voting at-large delegates represent the alumnae.

DAA Assignment:

  • Each district is assigned at least 1 DAA
  • The number of DAAs assigned to a district will be determined as follow:
  1. Number of miles between the chapters (either active or alum) in the district
  2. Number of active chapters
  3. Number of alum chapters
  4. Number of actively participating alums

ALUMNAE INVOLVEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Alumnae looking for ways to get involved in the alumnae organization may want to contact the Vice President of Alumnae of Relations, or any other member of the Alumnae Board of Directors.  Some opportunities available within the alumnae organization are:

  • Positions on the Alumnae Board of Directors
  • Directors of Alumnae Activity positions
  • Chapter Alumnae Liaison positions
  • Special committees or project teams
  • Alumnae chapter membership
  • Provide assistance in starting a new alumnae chapter
  • Provide special skills or services for one-time or on-going projects
