Amy (Russell) McConnell

National President 2006-2007
National Membership Director 2004-2006
Delta Chapter

Amy (Russell) McConnell pledged Omega Phi Alpha in the fall of 1993.  This pledge class was so large, that some “bigs” had to have 2 “littles.”  It was an exciting time in Delta chapter’s history.  After activation, she became very involved in the service aspect of the sorority and chaired various committees.  She later held the office of vice president of service in ’94-’95, and was elected president of Delta for the ’95-’96 term.  Her main focus that year was to keep people motivated and excited about O Phi A and service.  She graduated from Texas A & M in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

After graduation, Amy relocated to the Richmond-Rosenberg area and taught 9th grade Integrated Physics and Chemistry at Terry High School .  She also began work on her master’s degree at the University of Houston .  In the fall of 2000, she moved to Crowley , LA with her fiancé, Shannon .  She taught physical science, biology, and algebra I while in Crowley and completed her master’s in educational psychology at UH.  By the end of the school year, Shannon ’s company relocated him back to the Houston area, so of course, Amy followed, and they now reside in Katy (near the big mall!).  Amy and Shannon have two dogs, Labrador retrievers, Hooch and Shy Anne.  Amy currently teaches Integrated Physics and Chemistry at Cinco Ranch High School in Katy.

As the national membership director, Amy plans to make revisions to both the pledge educator and pledge handbooks making them more user friendly.  She also hopes to maintain open communication with all pledge educators in order to aid them in successful recruiting and rush planning and implementation.  Most importantly she wants to help the pledge educators help make pledge semesters a memorable and exciting time for new Omega Phi Alpha sisters!
