Ginger McGarity National President 1995-1997 National
Expansions Director 1990-1994 Ginger holds the distinction of serving as chapter president at two different OPA chapters: Delta and Nu. She pledged Delta Chapter at Texas A&M University, and later was a founding sister of Nu Chapter at Georgia Tech. Her involvement as a colony member at Georgia Tech led to a long-term passion for OPA’s expansions process. She first served as national expansions director (now known as vp expansions) 1990-1994. During that time, she helped guide six colonies to their charter: Omicron, Gamma, Pi, Rho, Sigma, and Tau. With each colony, Ginger learned what worked well and needed to change. Midway through this term, Ginger championed national legislation to make OPA’s expansions process more rigorous, to better ensure the long-term success of the infant chapters that are the result. Perhaps her greatest achievement was in re-colonizing at Eastern Michigan University, the site of Gamma Chapter. Although Gamma had been one of the three chapters that founded our national organization back in 1967, by the early 1970s it had fallen into serious decline and was declared inactive. After 20 years with no activity, Ginger brought this chapter back to life --- the first time an inactive OPA chapter had ever been successfully recolonized. Now, Gamma is a strong healthy chapter and providing service and sisterhood opportunities to students in Ypsilanti, Michigan on an ongoing basis. After serving as expansions director, Ginger went on to serve as national president 1995-1997, but her heart was always in expansions. After five years in OPA ‘retirement’, Ginger is now back serving in an official expansions capacity, and is eager to share OPA’s cardinal principles with students at new campuses around the country! Ginger is married and lives in Phoenix, Arizona with her husband and pre-school daughter. She works as an internet project manager for American Express. |
