Delta Chapter
Sarah pledged Delta chapter in the fall of 1994 and held the office of vice-president for her pledge class. Immediately following activation Sarah served on a committee organizing the efforts of the chapter to participate in the CEP and SAP awards. She also served as the chapter expansions liaison and researched several possible locations for chapters. Sarah was elected to serve her chapter as a convention delegate in Atlanta at convention ’95. During the next school year, Sarah served her chapter as the 1st Vice President. As 1st Vice President, she worked hard to help all members understand the different types of service projects, she created a new, easier to use, service hour sheet for the chapter, and increased the level of member recognition in the chapter. Sarah then went on to teach her self how to design web pages, and created Delta chapter’s first web page, which she maintained until graduation. During her last year at the chapter, Sarah helped to write the convention bid for Delta to host the ’98 convention at Texas A&M, and traveled to Upsilon chapter for their induction in 1997. Delta chapter participated as big sisters to Upsilon while they were colonists. Sarah’s little sister was Anita Landry. On the national level, Sarah was appointed as the first active trustee to the scholarship trust in 1995-96. She created the grading scale and rubric that is still used today to grade the applications. She helped in the creation of the application itself, and with the paperwork required to get the trust status with the IRS. Sarah served a second year as a trustee and had the privilege of grading the first applications for the scholarship. Sarah has continued to attend convention since 1995 and remained very active at the national level. In 1997 she was elected to National Executive Secretary. She served two years in this position. While secretary, Sarah worked diligently to increase communications within the NEB and between NEB and chapters. She created NEB buddies to help with officer transitions and coordinated email buddies between chapters. She also recruited students at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to begin a colony. She taught the girls and guided them through the colonization period. They were activated as Psi Chapter in 1998.
In 1999 Sarah was elected to National President. During her 1st term she focused on leadership training and increased alumnae involvement. Sarah created many task forces and new appointments to reach goals of better leadership training and increasing alumnae involvement. She led the convention delegation of 2000 to begin work on a 5-year plan, “Vision 2005” that would take this sorority into the future. Sarah traveled to meet with girls of every active chapter during her 1st term to learn more about the individual chapters and to provide workshops and information. She began a new tradition of holding a NEB retreat for goal setting and leadership training in the fall.
Sarah was re-elected in 2001 to serve another term as National President. She continues to promote improved leadership training throughout the sorority and increased alumnae involvement. In addition, she has focused her attention on implementing the structural changes passed in legislation at Convention 2001 as part of the “Vision 2005” package.
Sarah has served as the NEB liaison for the Texas chapters in District 5 for several years. As their NEB liaison, she has helped organize and present materials at district retreats. She has had opportunities to visit with each chapter often over the past couple of years to present workshops, attend alumnae function, attend meetings, and participate in ceremonies.
Sarah earned a bachelors degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas A&M University in 1996 and taught middle school math, algebra, and creative writing in a dropout prevention program for pregnant teenagers and young parents while she lived in Jacksonville, FL.
